Bidadi Plantation drive

Plantation Drive activity in Bidadi on 04-06-2023

Making surroundings of Bangalore Green and Cooler, this thought process began during Core Committee Members meeting of PFWCK for conducting Plantation drives in Govt. and Private Property, dry lands, temples premises around Bangalore and subsequently with repeated request by Kannadigas Bangalorian’s residing in United States of America (USA) through “PFWCK Gandhadagudi Conservationist Whats’app Group” and request by state committee of Jai Karnataka Kannada Organization through emails and by personal calls to PFWCK members.

The board of directors of PFWCK decided to act and take up plantation drives and activities related to environment development, environment education to school and college students, plantation drives in industrial areas, Govt. and Private owned lands ,school and college campuses, industrial installations & dry lands there by making Bangalore and its surrounding green and eco-friendly as Bangalore is blessed with best soil and climatic conditions but due to urbanization and industrial development in Bangalore and around Bangalore thousands of trees were cut with lots of water bodies were became extinct.

After PFWCKs Appu Sanje Event in USA the NRI’s of Karnataka and other kannnada Associations of America who have social concern and emotional binding towards their home state Karnataka especially Bangalore which is called Garden City of India where due to lots of urbanization and de fortification facing lots of environmental challenges received repeated requests to take up projects for environmental protection in Bangalore and around Bangalore.

Appreciating the concern and love towards their home land and involvement and support of professionals from various back ground the Board of Directors of PFWCK decided to initiate PFWCK activities in and around Bangalore and in surrounding places and could able to source Jai Karnataka Kannada Sangha and other social organization who shown interest to join hands with PFWCK for this cause. In the first phase of project expert committee identified Bidadi and its surrounding to initiate the planation drive in Pvt. and Govt. Owned compounded or fenced property with consent of land owners

PFWCK, based on the research and the knowledge gained from a variety of sources including experience gained selects specific species. Right tree, right place: We know that every species of tree has different requirements,. We understand the space in which we are planning for tree planting before finalizing your selection. We work with a qualified professional, or reach out to your local extension agent for assistance. We also recommend Evergreen trees; these trees provide year-round wildlife food, crucial for survival during the winter. While deciding on planting larger evergreens trees we keep the future in mind. We’re also aware of overhead power lines or nearby structures when planting these trees.

This is how PFWCK organize a tree planting event.

  1. Find a place that needs trees
  2. Get permission from the property owner to plant trees there
  3. Hook up with a community organization or service club who’ll provide volunteer labor
  4. Have T-Shirts printed up
  5. Make emergency action plan to respond to medical emergencies
  6. Get some trees
  7. Arrange transportation of the trees to the worksite
  8. Arrange for lunch/snacks/water for volunteers
  9. Meet/greet participants at worksite
  10. Deliver briefing to participants re goal(s) of event and emergency plan + hazard mitigation
  11. Plant trees

Visit of PFWCK research team to Bidadi and meeting with Mr.Jagadeesh, state president “Jai Karnataka Kannada Sangha” to finalize the venue and date and to study the soil condition, water availability and climatic conditions shows that

In many locations the primary problem isn’t planting, but care of the trees after they are planted. These mass drives of planting have resulted in massive mortality of trees and much wasted effort. In our state for example the greatest effort is to keep Goats from eating the trees until they grow up. It also involves watering the trees to make sure they survive until they are hardy and big.

Not all locations are suitable to trees. The soils must be adequate. The water supplies must be reliable and the climate and timing must be right. Merely grabbing a seedling and shoving it into the soil is not the end of raising trees. There is pest control. There are controlled burns to manage pests and competition until the trees control their habitat. There is a whole science to raising trees. Merely planting trees is only the beginning and outright foolish if you do not follow through.

Before planting trees PFWCK considers the most researched and effective method of planting trees such
as

  1. Environmental suitability of the plant to the local conditions.
  2. Environmental suitability of the plant to the local conditions.
  3. Availability of water and resources for artificially watering at least for first few years.
  4. Environmental suitability of the plant to the local conditions.
  5. Permission from the land owner

PFWCK Strategy Adopted in Bidadi Plantation

Appling PFWCK’s Researched Strategies.

We educate on How far from Property Should Trees Be Planted? How Far From Property Line Should Trees Be Planted?

Based on the research PFWCK advises to plant 15–20 feet away from the property to avoid any problems with the roots causing havoc with the foundations as the tree grows. These minimum distance regulations also protect the house from branches scratching at windows.

Underground water or sewer pipes could be at risk of damage as the tree’s roots expand while seeking water, so we consult property plans before planting.

Our plan is to plant 15–20 feet away from the property to avoid any problems with the roots causing havoc with the foundations as the tree grows. These minimum distance regulations also protect the house from branches scratching at windows.

Underground water or sewer pipes could be at risk of damage as the tree’s roots expand while seeking water, so consulting property plans might be a wise option before planting. PFWCK to its best tries to educate property owners on their duties, rights, and obligations for erecting fences on their property towards protecting the trees/environment.

Finally on 04-06-2023 conducted plantation drive program at the property land of AMB Info city Owners Association with support of “ Jai Karnataka kannada Sangha” in association with The Institute of Chartered Accounts of India, Jeemanmuki Foundation Trust® on the eve of “ world Environmental Day”
