Executive Summary

"A localized afforestation drive targeting degraded industrial buffer zones, temple premises, and private dry lands around Bidadi."

Geographical sprawl and industrial expansion around Bangalore have led to massive loss of vegetation. PFWCI partnered with local community committees, agricultural groups, and schools to set up tree nurseries and plant native shade-bearing and fruit-bearing flora around the Bidadi suburb.

The Conservation Challenge

The rapid urbanization of Bangalore's outskirts has resulted in the destruction of thousands of ancient trees, depleting the regional green buffer and turning vast spaces into concrete heat islands. Natural bird corridors and local insect pollinator populations have suffered steep declines due to habitat fragmentation.

Environmental Risk Factors

Habitat loss, structural soil degradation, and seasonal resource depletion present immediate threats to surrounding ecological stability.

Our Mitigation & Solution

Mitigation work in progress

PFWCI initiated a community afforestation model. We mobilized regional student groups to establish local seedbanks and plant native saplings (such as Pongamia, Neem, and Jackfruit) that require minimal watering. The project also introduced student-led tree adoption plans, ensuring high survival rates through weekly monitoring.

Core Interventions Delivered

  • Direct community mobilization & skill workshops
  • Procurement & delivery of certified native resources
  • Continuous progress inspection & data-driven audits
